A Mobile Agent Architecture to Support Distributed Resource Information Management
By Jonathan Dale, University of Southampton, 01/22/1997
The research presented in this thesis has advocated building a two-tiered approach to bringing mobile agent technology and distributed information management to the user; a lower strata dealing with process-level concepts (migration, communication, security) and an upper strata to handle the distributed information management tools, represented as component mobile agents. This approach allows mobile agents to reside beside the application and across distributed applications.

 CMU SCS OZ Project
The Oz Project at CMU is developing technology and art to help artists create high quality interactive drama, based in part on AI technologies. This especially means building believable agents in dramatically interesting micro-worlds.

The conversational humanoid (MIT Media Lab)
Bringing in knowledge from human discourse analysis and social cognition, the research group is developing autonomous agents that are capable of having a real-time face-to-face conversation with a human. These agents are human in form and communicate using both verbal and non-verbal modalities.

Kristinn R Thorisson's Agent's Page : Gandalf: The Communicative Humanoid
Gandalf is a prototype communicative humanoid capable of real-time dialogue with human users. Gandalf is an expert in the solar system and users can ask him questions about and travel to the planets using natural speech and gesture.

Communicative Humanoids. A Computational Model of Psychosocial Dialogue Skills
By Kristinn Thorisson
This thesis presents a computational model of psychosocial dialogue expertise, bridging between perceptual analysis of multimodal events and multimodal action generation, supporting the creation of interfaces that afford full-duplex, real-time face-to-face interaction between a human and autonomous computer characters.

 Natural Intelligence in Artificial Creatures
By Christian Balkenius, Lund University Cognitive Studies, 1995
The thesis presents a study of this problem within the field of behavior-based systems and artificial neural networks. The thesis brings together ideas from behavior-based robotics, control theory and machine learning and combines them with models from ethology, psychology and neurobiology in an attempt to synthesize a complete, artificial nervous system for a simulated artificial creature.
